Lisbon is one of Europe’s most beautiful and amazing cities and yet it doesn’t get as much attention as other cities. However, it has some of the most amazing picturesque views and landmarks that can rival any other European city and even surpass it - The narrow pedestrian-only pebbled streets, lined by whitewashed houses come to life with locals and the distinct fado rhythms winding around each corner...and always a little something else.
To me every time I walk in the streets of Lisbon I get a special feeling of being home and I get different perspectives of the beautiful streets specially when the sun is shinning...unfortunately today was cloudy but Lisbon never let me down it's always beautiful and magical, I just can't get enough.
Vintage peculiar buildings
The most beautiful street in the world is located in Portugal! The Rua da Bica in Lisbon, was voted as the most beautiful in the world along with the Champs-Élysées and 5th Avenue. The voting took place in several American websites and was based on the opinion of thousands of users and their experiences in each city. The well-known funicular, called Elevador da Bica, is one of the main references of Rua da Bica. Every day it transports thousands of tourists through this area in Lisbon.
Come and see it live!Rua da Bica de Duarte Belo is certainly one of the most photographed streets in Lisbon. Known for its iconic (and squeaky) funicular, Elevador da Bica, it descends steeply from the charming Bairro Alto district to the waterfront—incredibly picturesque!
The iconic yellow and white trains are run by the city’s public transport company, Carris. With its other funicular cousins, these elevadores are regarded as national monuments. Elevador da Bica in Lisbon started operation in 1892 and is known to be the only funicular plying a steep road route through narrow alleys, allowing visitors to enjoy a glimpse of Lisbon’s heartland.
It brings me to my childhood times, I never forget me and my grandma catching the "elétrico" (electric) that's how we call them...to go shopping and stop at the most iconic coffee shops for a tea and a "pastel de nata" (Portuguese custard tarts)...great times where everybody had money to make the great cosmopolitan Lisbon living.
This place is quite simply Brilliant.
Into the main square we go...
To me this street is even prettier than the other one that was considered "the most beautiful in the world"...I was so in love when I saw the way that the residents take care of their sidewalks and houses.
This really could be the most adorable little Ice cream shop in central town
Of course after a long walk a must needed sweet treat...
Take your sweet time, savor the moment.
How's that for a nice way to spend a afternoon? Lisbon is truly an inspiration...
Wait for more adventures in my lovely picturesque city.
